The Trunk
When you think about elephants, what comes to your mind? Their trunk comes to mine! The trunk is a feature that all types of elephants have. Elephants use their trunks to eat, drink, smell, feel, breath, and to play. It is very essential for survival. Did you know that the elephant trunk contains 70,000 muscles? That is more than 80 times how many we have in our whole body! As you probably know, elephants use their trunk to get leaves or fruits from a high place, like trees, so they can eat. They can also suck up about 2 gallons of water in their trunk and they can spray it all over themselves to cool off. During the dry season, elephants will dig deep holes with their trunks to find a good source of water. It may help them but small animals fall in them and die.
