The Rainforest
A rain forest is a dense forest that gets a large amount of rain. They usually get up 63 to 78 inches of rainfall a year. Rain forests are the most important ecosystems in the world because they are homes to millions of animals and they provide many everyday products for humans. In fact, scientists believe that there are more than 1 million species that live there. African elephants use their long trunks to get food from the trees. Elephants may stampede over small plants and kill them. But elephants also help the ecosystem. They eat plants, walk many miles, and then excrete the seeds. Without them, there would be a less variety of plant species in the rain forest.
